Injured Wild Rabbit.

Question
Late last night I found an injured wild rabbit in the middle of a busy road. We stopped because it was left it would have only been run over again! We put the rabbit in a cardboard box we conviniently had in the car and it looks like its back leg/leg were broken (when we approached it it did try to run away but not very well) it is also bleedin a little bit. Problem is at the moment I am staying with my partners parents and they refused to have it in the house and somehow convinced me to leave it out of the way and hope for the best. We left it in the box with a towel for warmth and one of the sides ripped off so it can get out. But this morning I'm feeling really bad and am wanting to go back and get it but I have no idea what to do!
I know most vets and animal sancturies will not accept wild rabbits and if they do they will jus put them down, and i don't want that unless it truely is the best thing for the rabbit as I honestly believe it has a fair chance of surviving.
Any advice would be appreciated? If I go back and it is still alive what do I do? Do I take it to a friend who could shoot humanely it so its over quickly? Do I take it in and try to look after it on my own? Even if I could find a vet willing to take it I have heard the cost is high to get its leg set and I can't afford it.

Thankyou xxx

Answer
While there are times when wild rabbit can be rehabilitated by the general public,  if the rabbit is hurt the best option for you would be to  find a wild life rehabilitation center near you that you can turn the rabbit into. I am not sure if there is any cost involved with this (i don't think there is but not sure think it depends on the center)  They will be better able to access the rabbit, and decide what is the best coarse of action for the rabbit.

You can check out your local phone book, do a google search, and call vets in your area to find a rehab center.  You might also check the local vets tell them your situation and see if they have any suggestions.  Alot of the time a vet has more access to who would be able to handle a rabbit that is injured than what you would find in a internet search.

Please check out this website as they have a wildlife rehabilitation information directory
