Question
QUESTION: Hi i have one holland lop lionhead rabbit his name is spike. And i recently was given two other rabbits they look like dwarf rabbits I beleive they are females. But the two i got all they do is squeal alot. Even when i try to put food and water in their cage they  come after my hand. When i go to change their bedding they squeal at me.And one of them is all the time making a bed out of the paper that i put in her bed. what can i do to get my rabbits to stop squealing.

ANSWER: hello Benita

i have never heard a rabbit squeal before, all i have heard is a grunting noise, if it is like a grunt then it means that your rabbit is saying go away and is warning you.

do the rabbits squeal at each other? does your rabbits have a run daily?

thanks

sarah

QUESTION: yes i have been taking them out every day and they are out for at least 3 or 4 hours a day. The only two that make that noise is the two that was given to me. And yes they make that noise when they are out and around each other. And it does sound more like a grunting noise.Last night i went down and checked on them and one of them was making a bed in her cage, she also had some of her hair in the bed she was making I think she is expecting babies because one of them is much bigger than the other one. They even make the grunting sound when i  pick them up But just not all the time. Will they ever get use to me. And i do have them separted I have them in different cages. Thanks

Answer
hello

well it most definatley not because they are bored. its good that you have them seperate as if left together they may fight. When a rabbit grunts then it is a warning to stay away. it most definatley sounds like one is pregnant, getting bigger, grunting and making a nest are the main signs, is there any chance that the other bunny is a boy? and as she has made her nest then she is likely to have her babies in the next 48 hours. try not to handle her and leave her be for a while as she will love the piece.

i used to have a bunny that grunted and bite me an awful lot and with loads of stokes/cuddles treats and patients she now loves me to bits and follows me everywhere.

good luck
