baby mini-rex not thriving

Question
We have a mini rex that is 2 1/2 weeks with difficulty with it's feet and scoots.  It ways less, but seems healthly and comfortable.  Can we take it away from the mother and feed it ourselves?  If so, what should I feed it?

Answer
Dear Kathleen,

If the baby is not thriving, it needs its mother's milk more than anything, as she will provide vital antibodies and the proper balance of nutrients for her species in her milk.  If the baby needs supplemental feeding, you can try the formula here:

but under no circumstances should you take him away from mama.  If he's not able to compete for milk, you might be able to let him nurse from mama before the other babies do, giving him more of a fighting chance.

It's possible that the baby has a congenital problem that's preventing him from developing normally.  But his best chance is still with his mother's milk and nurturing.

I hope this helps.
