Dislocated Leg

Question
Hi there,

I noticed that my little Netherland Dwarf's right hind leg looks out of place. It
appears to be dislocated out. It seems like the rest of the foot looks fine and
it's just the leg is always "stretched out". She seems to drag it around when
she walks. But when she runs and binkies, she uses both legs just fine. She uses this leg just as much as her other one. She stands on it, uses it to
scratch herself, and does not show any signs of pain.

I noticed this around a month and a half ago and on one of her nail trim
appointments, the vet said she probably hurt it and it healed over.  The vet
said that since she uses the leg and doesn't seem to be exhibiting pain, that
she should be fine.

I was wondering if it IS possible that her injury healed over the wrong way so
that her leg cannot return into it's original position.   Or could it be
something really bad and I should take her to another vet?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Jessica

Answer
Dear Jessica,

If this has been the same for six weeks or more, and she's using the leg pretty well, then I would not worry about it unless she shows any new signs of pain or discomfort regarding the leg.  This is likely an old injury that has healed, and trying to repair it now might do more harm than good.

You could get a second opinion from a rabbit vet here:

but I would err on the side of saving her from unnecessary treatments and surgeries if she is doing well.

Hope that helps.
