Question
Hi Dana, it's Elisabet again. I have two rabbit left.1 month persian and 3 months angora. i suspect the little one get the coccidia, he got soft stool with green mucus on it. but other symptomps like lethargic, not eating and drinking, etc didn't happen to him. he still eating well, drinking well and i haven't give him any greens yet. so is it a coccidia or what? he already got that for 2 days now. FYI i move my bunnies from cage to my room, and i disinfect my room twice a day, because i heard coccidia is contagious. i'd like to take him to a vet, but since my last experience with the vet, i'm kinda scared...so do you have any solutions so i could treat my own bunny? thanks before.

Answer
Dear Elisabet,

Coccidia can be confirmed only via fecal exam. But green, runny stool also can be caused by E. coli infection from human handling, as I told you before.

Coccidia are treated with sulfa drugs (trimethoprim sulfa or Albon) if you can't get the more recent and more effective drugs, such as toltrazuril or ponazuril.  You must get the bunnies to a vet to get those medications.

Same for E. coli.  Ciprofloxacin (15mg/kg twice a day) will kill off the E. coli causing the diarrhea, if this is due to E. coli.  But I cannot give you a diagnosis long distance.  You need the help of a good vet.  You may be able to find one here:
