Post spayed question

My lionhead bunny is spayed today, her head and eyes are all wet. It seems like tears from the eye or sweats. Is it normal?

Dear Lola,

A good, thoughtful vet will put ophthalmic ointment in the eyes during surgery to prevent the eyes from becoming dry if the bunny doesn't have her eyes totally closed during surgery (which is usually the case).  You're probably seeing the somewhat oily residue of this ointment, and possibly a little bit of tearing because of the surgery.  This should stop in a day or so.  If not, please ask the vet about it, and make sure this isn't a new problem.
