Mini Rex Smell

Question
Hi,

I have a 4 1/2 month old female mini rex (hazelnut.) About a few weeks ago she started mounting my neutered netherland dwarf. She also has this bad musky smell about her. And you can smell it whenever you walk into the house. We just got her spayed yesterday, and there is still a linger of that smell on her. Will she always smell? or have i just not given it enough time to go away?

Answer
Dear Jessica,

The musky smell will gradually go away, now that she's spayed.  But note that rabbits have scent glands on either side of the urogenital openings, and these will always have a bit of bunny musk in them. That's normal, and you shouldn't be able to smell it unless the bunny opens her pouches and lets the musk out.

Once she's spayed, she won't do that unless she's *very* upset by the presence of another rabbit--and that's not likely. Under normal circumstances, she will not smell musky at all.

Hope that helps.
