Question
hi i have a male and a female lop and they are about 10 months old i broguth them fro ma pet store when they were only 8 wees old so here is my problem,

in the last few months she has had two litters

the first one she had 4 babies and refused to feed them so i spoke to the vet and was told to keep warm and to hand feed them every 2 hours so i was doing that i was even sitting there bed on top of a hot water bottle and i made sure that theywere always kept as warm as i could keep them after a day and half of hand feeding they started dying by the end of the second day they were all dead the a week ago i noticed she had more babies and when i checked how many se had she had only had the one this time round which i thought i was odd then 2 days later that one was dead and i just dont know what i am doing wrong i have even thoguth about buying an older pair to try and teach her how to breed and feed her babies but i am just not sre.

is it due to the fact that even after they do the deed i leave them in the same hutch and thats the same hutch thatse has her babies in and when they are born the male all he wants to do is get cuddles can you plz help me i really want to breed rabbits i have so many people that want to buy them from me but i cant sell dead babies

anyway i hope to hear from you soon

Answer
Hello Sarah!
Well I will say that you really need to have two seperate hutches for your rabbits. The pet store should have tlod you that rabbits must be housed seperatly. when you what to breed the two you need to put the doe with the buck for ONLY 10 min and you should do this for 3 days  at the same time of day. Then you keep them seperated.
This has a lot to do with the babies dying the buck  is the one who is probably the cause of it.
The doe is probaly not ever going to care for the babies  because of the 2 times she has lost them it is ingrained in her that they are not to be cared for.
You can try her one more time but you REALLY have to wait about 2 months because she is probably really worn out now if she has had 2 litters so close together.
In the mean while you NEED to seperate them .
now if they are still together  he probably has already bred her again  just hours after she had her last litter she became fertle so if he has done this before he will do it again.
Well let me know how it all turns out.
Good Luck
Dan
