Question
Hi,I have an almost 2 year old male house rabbit. Not neutered. He is housed in a 3 level ferret cage. He loves it. Rascal has always used his litter box. Within the last week he has begun to urinate on all levels of his cage but not in his litterbox. I have not changed the bedding used in his box. He dumps his pellets and his hay into the urine on the floor. This is my first rabbit so I'm not sure what to do about this problem. He loves to be petted and let out to run but doesn't like being picked up. Since this has started I don't let him out because I don't want him peeing all over the floor. The constant cleaning of his cage is becoming annoying...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Sue!
Well I am at a loss as to why your rabbit has had a sudden change in behaivor.
you state he is 2 yrs old !
How long have you had him?
Has he been near a doe lately?
or even a female cat in heat?
Have you changed his diet?
Have you gotten a female rabbit recently?
He may just now relized he is mature and is just marking his territory.
This is common with male rabbits.
Try and change his bedding and disinfect the entire hutch, also sterilize the food and wated containers. You may also start to use a hanging water bottle so he will not pee in the water bowl. you can get a hopper type feeder and this will keep him from messing his feed.
if all fails you may need to get him neutered. This would most likely stop this behaivor.
Good Luck
Dan
