Question
QUESTION: i think my 3 and a half month old rabbit is pregnant because theywere mating a lot and aren't now shes eating heaps and heaps shes fat i can feel little lumps her nipples are big. And she keeps on going in the nesting box but cost 2 much 2 go 2 the vet for a ultrasound plz plz help me I'm begging you plzz.

ANSWER: Hi Hope. Any time you leave a buck and doe together you are going to have babies. If you do not have the money for a nest box, you can make one out of scrap lumber. It needs four sides and a bottom. They can be any height but the front will need to be less than six inches high so the mother can jump in with out any trouble. It will need to be big enough so that the mother can turn around in it. You can also use a cardboard box but know that your doe may eat the box and your babies will not have a home. If a cardboard box is all you have in an emergency go ahead and use it and replace it if necessary. I hope I am not too late with this. It seems that I get  one problem fixed and I have another one. Let me know if you get babies!!!   pat

QUESTION: Your not to late but i think she could have them tonight but I'm only ten so i have to go to school everyday. I'm out there every night and every morning just to check on her. Shes been in and out of the box all day infact everytime i look at her shes eating. She doesn't let me go anywhere near her cause she gets all cranky and stuff.Am i right because i put hay in the nest box? Her and the male never go near each other now.But she doesn't bite yet! lol PLz get bak to me shortly I'll get bak 2 u ASAP thankyou heaps.

ANSWER: Hi Hope. If your buck is still in the cage with your doe you need to take him out! He will disturb your doe when she is in labor and all your babies may die. You may need to add more hay to the nest box. It is getting cold at night and your doe will need lots of hay to keep the little ones warm. If your buck is still in the cage your doe may also have her babies outside the box and they will get too cold and die. Make sure he has a cage of his own.   Pat

QUESTION: its actually pretty hot here at night in armidale but still put more hay in there for her. she had a little fight with not the father but another male thats only 6 or 7 weeks old, shes always chasing him around and in the morning when i went out there he went near the nest box she chased him and tried to hurt him. When do they usually have babies like early in the morning or late at night in between? She doesn't at all let me go near her but if i go near her or the box i have to talk to her first otherwise she doesn't let me go near her i just have to say her name and tell her that everythings alright. By the way can i let anyone like my friends see her or the babies after she has them? if so how long do i have to wait until i can show them her and her new cute kittens I'm only ten so i go to school at 8.30 till 3.30 but every morning and every afternoon i go out there just to check on her but i think she will have them sometime this week. wright back ASAP

Answer
Hi Hope. If you don't get the other rabbits out of your does pen you won't have any babies to show anyone. Your doe needs to be in a pen by herself. She is going to be very grumpy and may bite you or one of your friends because she is trying to protect her nest from the other rabbits. If you take the other rabbits out she should stop being so grouchy with you. Rabbits can have their babies any time of day or night but I find most of mine have theirs in the early afternoon. Pat
