Runt?

How do you tell if an adult rabbit is a small breed instead of a runt?  Does it make any difference?

Answer
If the rabbit is an adult and is still small it is probably either a small breed or a mix of some sort.  Each breed has a standard.  For example a Mini Rex should weigh between 3 and 4 1/2 pounds as an adult.  We have a few that are a bit under 3 and many that are over 4 1/2.  A lot of it has to do with the genetics and the dwarfing gene.  There are occasions where you will get rabbits that are runts.  It is really hard to say.  The best I can tell you is to look up the standard for  that breed.
