Why does my rabbit pee on and around me?

22 10:01:50

Question
My son found a loop ear in our back yard.  No one responded to signs we posted so we decided to keep him instead of giving him to a rescue as we always wanted one.  We have had him about 2 1/2 months now.  He is very affectionate, semi litter trained but is still pooping when out of the cage.  For some reason he has started to pee on me when he gets up on the coach with me.  When I lay in the floor with him he will jump and pee at the same time so that it goes on me. I am dumb founded.  I love playing and loving on him but am being discouraged to do so as I don't want to be peed on.  What can I do to stop this behavior?

Thank you,
Dyanna

Answer
Dear Dyanna,

Sorry about the delay in answering!  I had put myself on vacation because I was having a truly busy time, but somehow the dates got mixed up!

In any case, to answer your question:  Your bunny adores you, and his way of showing you his love is to shower you (literally) with his affection in the form of urine.  He is marking you as his own true love.  So while it's kind of gross, it's also a little bit flattering.

Neutering will solve this problem.  A few weeks after the surgery, the hormones will be gone, and he'll be much calmer and not driven to spray you any more.  Please see:
