Question
i read on the internet that it is ok to breed a female bunny with its dad but u cant breed 2 rabbits from the same litter is this true

Answer
Hi Allison. You can breed brother to sister. However when you breed closely related animals to each other it tightens the gene pool. By this I mean that related animals will have many of the same genes in common. If there is a weakness in one or more of these genes you will be increasing that weaknesss. If, for instance there is a genetic weakness for tooth deformity you may not see it in either one of the adults, but paired together they could produce lots of baby bunnies with deformed teeth. Now, the same holds true for superior genes. If, for instance, there is genetics for thick fur in these rabbits breeding them together would increase the chances of the babies having thick or thicker fur. I would not suggest that brother to sister matings be made, or even father to daughter, unless there is a good reason to do so. If you are breeding for show rabbits where there is a set type you are trying to perfect, this can be a useful way of achiving that goal. However, if you want strong vigorous babies, without a lot of extra work, I suggest that you not line breed or inbreed two related rabbits together.    Pat
