Question
My bunnies have mange and i have revolution to treat it but i wondered if i will i have to do a second round of treatment later on? if so do i use the revolution again or should i use a different kind of treatment, i don't want to use too much just in case it could hurt them. i also wondered if there was something more i could do for them while waiting for the revolution to kill the mites?

Answer
Dear Mary,

We have found that Revolution is the best treatment for mange.  After about a week, the crusts will begin to fall off.  You can help them along by softening them with a bit of mineral oil or coconut oil (extra virgin; expensive, but better for them than the icky, nasty, unhealthy hydrogenated coconut oil), then gently combing them off.

To get oil off the fur, simply wipe well with a dry washcloth (swapping out cloths, as necessary).  Coconut oil is very soothing and healthy for the skin, and this may help promote healing.  But don't rush the oil treatment.  Wait until the mites are really dead and the crusts are starting to come off on their own.  If you do this too soon, it's like tearing olff a scab while the skin below hasn't healed yet.

Let the body do its work, and then you can help with a bit of grooming.

Revolution  can be applied every 3-4 weeks, and we have had no adverse reactions to it.  I would say it's about the safest remedy for mange you can use on a bunny.

Hope they will be fine soon.
