Rabbit bleeding

Question
My female rabbit is nearly 3 and has been spayed for 3 years. Last night we noticed some blood in her wee and she hasnt eaten much today. When she was sitting on the carpet there were blood patches underneath her. Her bottom was very dirty so we cleaned it with warm water.

Answer
Dear Joanna,

Please read:

and find a rabbit-savvy vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

If she is spayed, there is still the possibility that some uterine tissue was left behind, and has become cancerous.  This would be one thing the vet might check.

The second possibility is a severe urinary tract problem:

such as bladder stones or even a kidney infection severe enough to cause bleeding.

Any of these problems is quite serious, and I hope you will be able to find a vet right away who can see your bunny to diagnose and treat the problem with an in-person exam to find out exactly what is going on.

I hope she will be fine soon.
