Question
my bunny was inside last night because of mozys and when i got up this morning there was this weird thing in the bath with him it look like vomit and it was yellow and surrounded by a white colour like puss and i heard bunny cant vomit so im wondering what it is i know its not pee so im just wondering if i should be worried/ take him to the vet.  thanks Steph

Answer
Dear Steph,

Actually, it sounds just like pee.  Rabbit urine can be quite thick and range in color from yellow (sometimes ranging from dark yellow to orange, red, and even brown, once it oxidizes in the air), and the white stuff surrounding it is likely calcium salts, which are excreted via the urine.

If the white substance doesn't dry to a powder once the pee is dry, and you really think it might be pus, please get your bunny to a good rabbit vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

who can check for a urinary tract infection.  When you go to the vet, ask about vaccinating your bunny against both myxomatosis and viral hemorrhagic disease (VHD), two deadly viral diseases that are common in Australia.  The former is spread by mosquitoes, and the latter by just about anything.  So be sure to protect your bunny, since there is no cure once the bunny starts showing signs of illness.

Please also see:

to learn how to tell if your bunny is sick, and what to do until you can get him to the vet.

Hope this helps.
