Neutered Male rabbit urinating

Question
Hello,

My eight month old neutered male rabbit has been urinating over almost every inch of his cage (never goes to the bathroom outside of it, though).  He was neutered two months ago, stopped spraying a week later, and was litter boxed train for a while there.

We have another spayed female rabbit, same age, that was actually in the home before he came along.  At first, he was obviously very interested in her for mating purposes, but after he was neutered, calmed down immensely.  We are in the process of slowly trying to bond them.

Within the passed two weeks, he has gone to pooing ridiculous amounts all over his cage, to peeing near or in his food bowls, to now peeing over almost every inch of his cage.  At times, the bedding on the floor of his cage is saturated with urine (which leads to very frequent cage cleanings!).

I believe I am recognizing this correctly as a territorial thing, but why now so severely after he's been neutered?  He is eating and drinking normally and playing normally, in other words, does not seem to have anything medically wrong with him.

Your advice on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi,

my guess is that it's a territory thing to, marking what is his.  Although lots of rabbits instead of urinating all the time to mark will just chin objects instead.

Think back two weeks ago when this started and make a list of everything that changed around that time.  Moving things, schedule changes, anything that would make a difference to him.  Changes in routines, who has access to where, etc.  If she's in his house during bonding time, then he will be remarking stuff.

Usually there is one or more things that happen that cause a change in behavior like this.  You have to sit down and list anything that comes to mind and try to work back to it.
