Sulfatrim for ear infection

Question
Hello!  I am hoping you can help me with a question.  I took my newly adopted mini-lop to the vet and found she had an inner ear infection.  For this, he prescribed Sulfatrim 2x daily for 4 weeks.  I have since read that Sulfatrim may not be helpful for this.  What are your thoughts and/or experience?  Is this a waste of time?  Should we be using Baytril instead?  I don't want to extend the discomfort of my girl unnecessarily.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Debbie,

I prefer to have a culture and sensitivity test to see which antibiotics will work.  If the sulfa is not helping then by all means ask for a different antibiotic.  While we are waiting for cultures we always use Baytril.  It doesn't always help but I find that it helps more often than not.

If you feel uncomfortable with your vet you might consider a second opinion from another rabbit savvy vet.  You can find a list of vets by region here:

Good luck with your bunny
