Lop-eared bunny problem

My 7 1/2 year old lop-ear has never allowed us to handle him. He lives in his hutch,is eating fine has lost a little weight and is happy. The problem is he has stopped using his litter box and is drinking excessively and urinating excessively. What could be wrong? And can bunnies develop diabetes?

Hi Malinda,

Rabbits don't develop diabetes but they can get kidney problems.  You really need to get him to a rabbit savvy vet for a blood test.  He may need to be on a special diet.  Excessive drinking is usually a sign of kidney problems but it can also be many other things.  If you don't have a rabbit savvy vet you can find one here:
