My Bunny :(

Question
Over the past few days I have notice that my bunny makes these weezing noises as if he is having a hard time breathing. I gave him food yesterday and when I want to check on him last night had had not touched it. I was holding him and I would hear him pause in breathing. I was rubbing his sides to try to feel any rattling when he was breathing but I did not feel anything. So I fed him a carrot to see if it was something cold that he needed. He ate a good amount of the baby carrot but when he stopped he looked as of he were about to pass out. His ears are normal temp and he is pooping normally. I do not have money for the vet. What do I do?

Answer
Hi,

your rabbit is in real medical trouble.  He's got some sort of respiratory infection from what you are saying.

He must get medical care.  You have to take him in to a good rabbit vet immediately.  Not eating and drinking will weaken him and send him into shock, and you don't want that to occur.

Please get to a good rabbit vet immediately.  Ask about setting up a payment plan, most will work with you if you work out a payment plan to pay them back, they want to help animals that need it.

If you need to find a good rabbit vet (and time is now critical for you) start here:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

to find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.

Make sure he is drinking normal. if not, give him some water (5-10 mL) from an oral syringe.  Carefully and slowly because you don't want to get it in his lungs.

You simply have to get to a vet.  Sell stuff, change plans, drop cable.  Work out a payment plan with the vet.  Please do it now, while your rabbit still has ehough stamina and strength to be able to recover with proper treatment.  You want to jump on this now so he doesn't lose more strength.  He probably just needs a strong antibiotic for 1-2 months to knock out the respiratory infection.  You're not looking at surgery here.  Please get him in immediately, like as soon as you're done reading this, find a vet or call up your rabbit vet and go there.

And pray for your bunny.  Always pray.  And pray for your vet too.
