QuestionI have noticed in the past my rabbit might break or something similar i guess while chewing something the peg teeth or tooth will shorten or fall out now right now i noticed one of the peg teeth is loose and a little bent now my instinct is to try to pull it but yet another instinct is maybe that's not the right thing to do now will it fall out on its own and grow back or do i have to worry about it i can tell my rabbit is a little depressed but will still gobble down treats when offered so whats your opinion/advice ?
sidenote
I thought i would give him some hard treats maybe it would help to make it fall out but to no avail as of yet
AnswerHi,
rabbits should not be breaking or losing teeth. Their teeth should normally wear down against each other from hay. Do not pull out any teeth. Do not clip any teeth as this causes more problems than it solves (crushing and cracking teeth, infection sets in). Do not mess around with their teeth. It is very stressful for them to have anything done to their teeth without being under anesthetic.
If you really believe your rabbit is losing part of a tooth, I strongly advise taking your rabbit in to your good, regular, rabbit vet. They can do a quick exam with an otoscope and if they find that because the teeth aren't wearing down right parts are breaking off, etc, they can sedate your bunny and use a dental drill to shape the teeth so they will wear down much better, to the point the problem may go away entirely and the teeth will wear down properly from now on.
Please get him in to a vet. They should not be falling out. I suspect you are seeing parts of a tooth that isn't wearing down right. If you need to find a good rabbit vet (not all are) start here:
