socialising 2 neutured rabbits

Question
I have a 14mnth old rex (quite nervous) and 2 wks after I got a 6mnth old flemish cross (very docile and friendly) after a few days of looking at each other through a partition I put them together in neutral territory.  The rex attacked the flemish and caused loss of fur and a bleeding scratch under his eye (vet treated) he only needed antibiotics in case of infection.  After another 2 weeks the rex escaped into the flemish's area in the living area and he chased her and she fled to a safe place.  Once again separated them.  There has been alot of lying togther on opposite sides of the barrier with rex putting nose under flemish's head through the gaps in cage.  Afraid to put them together again.  What do you suggest?  Both rabbits have no problem with the cat or dog.

Answer
Dear Dianne,

The crucial thing is to have a neutral territory where neither rabbit feels proprietary.  Taking them on slightly stressful car rides (rabbits don't much like car travel) with someone in the back to monitor things with the bunnies can really help.

It's not surprising that the bunnies get along better with the dog and cat than with each other:  their conflict is a social one among members of the same species, and that's always more complicated.  (That's why a lot of people get along better with their pets than with other people.  Less complicated!)  :)
