Question
hi. i have a 1 yr old female rat named bu. i have 2 questions. 1) what type of rat isshe. she is white with black on her head and a strip of black down her back. 2) she has always been healthy exept for the fact that her mom bit off half her tail...she and her surviving brother had to be raised by hamsters... anyways... she suddenly got  these bumps on her back. they are kind of scaby, but not exactly warty... if you e-mail me back i may be able to get you a picture... do you have any idea what these bumps are and if furral will help?  thank you.

Answer
Hello Krickette and Bu.
Bu is a black hooded rat, one of the most common color/markings aside from albino, white with pink eyes.

It is possible that Bu is having an allergy to bedding or food, or is just dirty and needs a bath. Or she could have mites. Rats can get mites very easily from bedding that has been sitting on a petstore shelf to long. mites can only be seen through a microscope, by a vet, and it she does have mites, Iveamection will be given. I have no idea what FURRAL is or what it does, you will have to ask a vet about that one, as I am not one.

I hope this answered your questions, if not, feel free to ask more.

Happy Ratting!
Becky

****Pine and Cedar wood bedding is TOXIC to all rodents and should be avoided as it causes upper respritory problems and canser due to wood oils****

****Shreaded Aspen is a great wood beding and Carefresh is a great pet bedding made from recycled paper***

***Rats should never live alone, as they are extreamly social creatures that thrive on interaction*****
