gerbil out she has only been sleeping eating and drinking. while she normally
has been out and about. What is wrong with her? Should i get her a cage mate? If
so sicnce she is a feed mouse what kind of mouse 2 be a cage mate? P.S. MY
GERBIL IS ALSO A GIRL. SO SHE IS NOT PREGNENT.

Answer
First of all, you are a saint for rescuing her and remember whatever happens to your mouse is a better fate than being fed to a snake.

Your mouse is probably a bit stressed and lonely, which is why she isn't as active. Mice don't need a lot to drink so don't worry too much about her not drinking, a piece of juicy fruit will encourage her. If she isn't eating (the best way to tell is if she poops or not) then give her some fromage frais. It is high in protein and mice love it! They also love 'Ritz' crackers, cheerios, peanut butter, juicy fruit (strawberries, cherries) and millet seed. If you can't get hold these just look in your cupboards and try her with food you think she will like.

Your mouse needs a playmate or two. Mice are very sociable creatures and need company of their own species. Fortunately girls get along well together regardless of age, colour or genetics.

I don't know how old your mouse is or what sort of condition she is in. If she looks like shes got a 'hunchback' or is very thin and frail put an old girl in with her who has had babies in the past as she will have a strong instinct to 'mother'. If this isn't possible pick a docile mouse who gets on with her well.

If she is good condition and has a glossy coat, bright eyes etc try to pick a mouse the same age (they will die around the same time).

The above is just the 'best scenario' for your mouse. If it isn't possible don't worry just pick another girl mouse to keep her company.

You are a wonderful person for rescuing her. Please feel free to ask me anything else. Good luck
