Land Hermit Crab....

Question
I have 3- this morning I noticed that one was missing.  His shell is in the cage- but his body is gone.  There were 2 empty shells but she didn't move into one of those.  One of my other crabs is small and one is about the same size as the missing one.  Do you think they could be sharing a shell?  Could the other crab have killed the missing one and if so- wouldn't there be a body...not just an empty shell?  My daughter is very dissapointed- since the missing one is hers.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Answer
Hello and thank you for your questions,

Are you very sure there isnt a tiny tiny crab hiding back in the old shell? hermit crabs shed skin and are smaller for a while before they reharden and get a teensy bit larger then move to a new shell. If you don't see a tinyier crab in the old shell(s) he probally went streaking(running naked out of shell) because of something unnoticeable to yourself....lslight temp cahnge/bulling or fighting amoung the crabs or someone hogging food/not enough proper shells sizes/shapes/too damp to hot to cold or too dry. If this happened the other crabs may have eaten him... or he may be buried under bedding somwheres. If you need anything esle feel free to ask.
