Question
HI, I got a new hermit crab yesterday and he usually never comes out of his shell and when he does, if i go close to him he hides back in his shell. How come?, and how can i help him become more active?

Thank you

Answer
New crabs often take a little while to get use to their new home. For the first few weeks just leave him to do his own thing. After than, slowly get him use to you being nearby. Stand and watch the tank until he emerges once or twice a day.

Does he have a buddy? Crabs are often more social when they have another crab in the tank.

Does he have a good place to hide? Also very important in making them feel safe.
