Question
QUESTION: Hello. I have a female and a male in the same aquarium. They were both bought at the same time and were roughly around the same size. Now 9 months later he is larger then her. She just recently (last Thursday) laid eggs and tonight I witnessed her walking up to him and biting him on the leg. He is running away from her. Is this normal? Or should I look at separating them so neither one gets hurt or killed?

ANSWER: Hello, separate them ASAP. The male cannot be around the eggs or her now. She may be protecting her eggs, I hope you are meaning to take care of the eggs.    If you need any further help send another question.

QUESTION: On Thursday when she laid her eggs I took them out and placed them in an incubator. Do you think she is still trying to protect them? I have never seen her act this way. They are always around each other and never separated. Do you think after a few days it will be ok to introduce them back in the same aquarium together?

Answer
Hello, it will not be ok to introduce them together again unless breeding season comes around again. The male always wants to mate with the female and she will only once a season. She will attack him which can result in injury or death. So, do not put them together until next year when breeding season is ready to begin. My female acts like this once she is pregnant with eggs so this year i have separated them before she became angry and so that she can lay her eggs.
