I believe my 2 year old yorkie is having her period, how would I know?  There is blood on her  training pad, a few specks

I would say she is in heat.  The fact that she is just now having a heat is a little unusual but if she is small that can sometimes happen.  The first week is usually spotty and then the second week is heavy.  The third week is slight pink.
