Question
How do I go about breeding Bella. I am breeding her with my friends Yorkie. Do I bring the female to the male, or does she bring her male to my female?
And she is still peeing on the floor. She is ten months old and still having accidents. How do we stop this?

Answer
Gina,

It is usually best to bring your female to her male.  The reason is that your house will smell like female everywhere and it may take him a while to get to it because there are so many things to smell.  If you have never bred before keep in mind that not all Yorkies just do it, sometimes they need help.  I have to ask, is your female larger than the male you are breeding with?  The optimum weight difference is a 2.5 to 3 pound male to a 5 pound female.  There are many reasons for this that I can get into late if you need me to.  You must never breed a larger male to a smaller female.  If your female is smaller than the male do not breed them.

As far as her peeing on the floor, I hate to tell ya but that is the Yorkie breed.  Not one of my Yorkies was ever completely potty trained.  They had good spells and then they had bad spells.  They don't like getting their feet wet so they would always pee in the house when it was raining outside.  I can't imagine what it would have been like if I lived where it snowed!  I have spoken to my vet about this and (he owns a Yorkie) he said that of all the small breed dogs the Yorkie is the absolute worst about potty training.  I have had friends, relatives and co-workers who all had Yorkies and they all said the same thing about potty training them, it is impossible.  About the only thing you can do is get her a diaper from any pet store but I always found that to be such a hassle.  I'm sorry I couldn't give you better news but it seems that people love Yorkies so much that they are willing to put up with the accidents.

I have given specific instructions about how to breed Yorkies and what you need to know about it in previous answers to others questions so if you look through past answers just click on the ones that say breeding and you should see everything you will need to know.  If you can't find what you are looking for let me know and I will try to give you step by step instructions.

Sincerely,

Melinda
