Answer
Vickie,

You are going to have a problem.  With her only being four pounds (I never bred mine if they were less than 4.5 pounds) it would have been questionable wether you should breed her or not but with him being half again her size you are definitely going to have a problem.  It has been a while since I had to have a c-section but they are expensive.  I think 700.00 is a little outrageous and I would shop around if I were you.  You are going to need to find a vet who is available on short notice and time of the day or night.  It has been my experience that the females do not have emergency c-sections between 9 and 5 if you know what I mean.  Mine always had to have them at 5:00 in the morning on a Sunday (which costs more).

In nature there are very few species where the male helps take care of the babies.  Yorkies (or dogs for that matter) do not need the added stress of having a male dog around when they have puppies.  The mother will be very stressed because she will have to be on guard to protect her pups from the male and she really does not need that stress.

I don't think there is any way possible to avoid a c-section because your female is so small.  The puppies are most likely going to be too large for her to deliver.  That is the reason it is recommended that you never breed a larger male to a smaller female.

I could tell you all the things you will need for the delivery but I think you should think about something else first.  You need to make a decision regarding the health and welfare of your female.  In an emergency c-section the female gets to the vet having struggled to try and have the puppies for a while before you have determined that she cannot do it on her own.  She is stressed and so are the puppies.  I never lost a female but I lost plenty of puppies from having to have an emergency c-section.  I did however have several breeder friends whose females died during the c-section.  That being said I have to ask you how badly do you want puppies?  How concerned are you for the safety of Winnie?  I can only tell you what I would do.  I would have the puppies aborted.  The problem with doing that is that in order to do it they must spay Winnie which would mean she could never have puppies.  It is a tough decision but when you think about what could happen it would seem the safest thing for Winnie.  Also if you are thinking about the cost it is going to cost a lot less to get her spayed than it would for a c-section and everything that goes along with it.  I can tell you from personal experience that it is a horrifying experience not meant for the faint of heart.  I once had to help my vet because it was just me and him and the puppies were born dead.  Besides the fact that I almost threw up it was agonizing to watch my baby go through that.  I had her fixed after that and never bred her again, oh and both puppies died.

I am sorry I could not be more helpful but I have to be honest with you.  I do not envy you the decision and I cannot make it for you.  You are the only person who can make this difficult decision for yourself and Winnie.

I hope it all works out for you no matter what you decide.

Sincerely,

Melinda
