Yorkie Pup

Question
We contacted the vet and they would put a tube in to feed the pup.  However they said it is a 50/50 chance she will make it given how small she is.  We have attempted to bottle feed the pup with little success.  We have also tried to stimulate breast feeding while the the other pups are resting to no avail.  She is very weak.  What should we do?

Answer
Daniel,

I would absolutely try the tube feeding.  She is to weak to eat and needs help.  She may die anyway but at least you will know that you gave it your best shot.  If however, the time constraints or expense of doing this will place a hardship on you that you cannot bear then the kind thing to do is to have her put down.  Just letting her die a natural death would be cruel.  Starving to death is said to be a horrible and painful way to go.  Dogs do feel pain and they do suffer no matter how big or small they are.  Tubing is not really as difficult as it sounds so what have you got to loose?  The bottom line is that you need to do what is right for you and best for the puppy.  It's a tough decision but if you are going to breed you will need to learn these lessons.

Sincerely,

Melinda
