Question
my yorkie seems to be in distress the last two days he sees to  have a problem around his abdomen or hind legs and keeps crying and yelping when he moves or wakes up

Answer
David,

How old is your Yorkie? Could he be constipated?  I have had dogs who acted that way when they were constipated.  If he is constipated you could give him a teaspoon (or tablespoon depending on his size) of cooking oil and that should move things along.  Do not give him the cooking oil if you are not sure he is constipated.  Could he have jumped off of something and hurt his leg or something else?  If he is elderly he could be having joint pain.  There are a number of things it could be ranging from something as simple as constipation to something more serious like an intestinal problem.  It would be best (if you can rule out constipation) to take him to the vet asap just to make sure it is nothing serious.  While there is no way I can tell you what is wrong I can tell you that dogs do not usually show pain.  If your dog is crying and yelping then he is in a lot of pain and it needs to be checked out.  I hope he is just constipated but if not it is better to be safe than sorry.

Sincerely,

Melinda
