Question
I thinking about buying a Yorkshire puppie. I went to a the home of someone who is selling some, my concern is the daddy weighs eight pounds, and mom only weighs 5 pounds. The pups are only three weeks old, so of course they are only sleeping. Dad is registered, mom is not, they both looked very healthy. I'm not looking for a tea cup, but I'm hoping to get a pup that is not more than 5-6 pounds full grown. Please give me advice on what i should be looking for. Thank you very much!

Answer
Teresa,

If you want a puppy that is going to be five to six pounds then this is not the litter you want to get it from.  The standard is if you breed a smaller male to a larger female then the puppies will usually be the size of the female or smaller.  If you breed a female with a male that is larger than her then the puppies will be the size of the female or larger.  In my experience the puppies are usually the size of the male or larger.

If you want a female that is five to six pounds then you will need to find a female that is five pounds that has been bred with a male that is less than five pounds.

I hope this helps,

Melinda
