Question
hi Melinda, I have been reading most of the questions and asnwer from your wedside.  my female Yorkshire just gave birth this past Monday, when can I first be taking them to the Vet, I'm not too sure but I was thinking probably within two weeks after birth, also I will be asking my vet when may I schedule an appt. to cut their tails, I also want for their ears to stay up as well.  they are doing very good although I was very afraid when she had them because she was refusing her first born puppy after my daughter touched him she did not want him at all, we try all day and most of the night giving him to her until she took him back, we first tough that he was diying, so I called the person that I bough her from and she was so kind to walk me thrue with everything.  they have not open their eyes yet but they are gain weight and are crowing faster than before, i really think that Darcy is a great mom for being her first birth.  please let me know when they should be dewelming because I am new to this.

Thank you,

Rosa

Answer
Rosa,

The tails are usually cut with in  the first week.  I always took mine to have their tails cut when they were three days old.  It is not unusual for a female not to know what to do with a puppy on their first litter.  I'm sure that now that she has the hang of it she will be fine.  They do not open their eyes until they are at least two weeks old.  As long as they are eating and continue to grow you should not have any problems.  Good luck with your new babies.

Sincerely,

melinda
