PREGNANT OR NOT

Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old female yorkie and a 1 year old male yorkie. During her 2nd heat (11/07) they managed to get together and ended up tied on 3 occasions that I know of (I was in the process of moving and was not with them 24/7) the last being on 11/22/07.  She has exhibited some or all of the symptoms of pregnancy that I've seen listed on-line.  I took her to our vet 12/27 and was told that he "didn't feel anything but that didn't mean that she wasn't in the motherly way." He then weighed her (a whopping 5lbs) and said to bring her back in 30 days to be weighed again. Since that visit it seems that her tummy has swelled and is somewhat hard to the touch and her nipples are huge.  She's will no longer jump up on the couch (and this is a dog that would jump 2 1/2 feet in the air at a moments notice), seems to sleep alot and no longer plays with her favorite toy (a ball she would chase for hours), & wants to constantly be in my/my husband's lap or at very least touching one of us. In the last week or so, it seems like she's very sad or afraid, keeping her ears pinned back and looking at me forlornly.  Seeing that it hasn't been 30 days since our last visit, do you have any suggestions on my next course of action?  My vet has mentioned that I tend to spoil her and be overprotective....and he's right...but that's not a bad thing, is it?

Answer
Lynne,

It sounds like you are going to be a mother.  As far as how she is acting even if she wasn't spoiled she would be acting different because she is different.  You will need to know a lot about what is coming up so if you send me your email address I will send you a word document that tells you what to expect.
