Yorkie bowel movement is hard and black

Question
My daughter's Yorkie is 7 months old and recently I have noticed that her bowel is hard and black.  When I take her outside she eats grasses.  Is her bowel normal and her constant eating of grasses.  I feed her puppy chow and makes sure she has plenty of water.  She does not eat table scraps.  What can I do?

Answer
Sandra,

Yorkie stools are usually hard.  As long as she is going to the bathroom regularly, eating, drinking, and does not appear to be straining you shouldn't worry to much.  If her stools are really, really, black (and I don't mean dark brown) and it is the whole stool and not just part of it, you may want to take her to the vet just as a precaution.

I always looked at their hard stools as a blessing.  At least if they go in the house it is easy to pick up and usually leaves no visible staining on the carpet.
