Question
I am considering buying a yorkie male puppy from a breeder.  Is $1500.00 alot or is it possible to get a good bred puppy for less money?  I am worried about spending that much on a puppy what are the guarantees?

Answer
Debby,

You do not have to spend that much on a male to get a good stud.  You want a stud that is going to be 2.5 to 3 pounds full grown.  You will need to make sure that the parents are small.  You need to see both parents before you purchase the male.  The female should be no larger than 5 pounds and the male should be no larger than 3 pounds.  This usually assures that the male you get will not be too large to use as a stud.  You can usually go by the hair texture and color of the parents for what the puppies will look like.  If the parents have nice hair color and texture then the puppies will also.

If you are planning on breeding for pedigree or championship bloodlines (for show dogs) then you will pay a lot more for them.  If you are just planning on breeding nice yorkies that people want as pets then you should be able to purchase a stud for six to eight hundred dollars.
