After mating

Question
My yorkie has recently mated 3times at her 9th, 11th and 13th day. The last mate was 3days ago, she still bleeding a bit (red color at 2days after the 3rd mating, very light color today which is 3days after last mating) And her tail would still put aside when I touch her lower back.
Is this normal? Or she is not pregnant?
She is on frontline regularly, if she is pregnant, can I put frontline on her?
thx!!!

Answer
Lei,

Are you sure when you bred her it was her 9, 11, 13th day?  The reason I ask is because they are to be bred between day 7 and 13 but only if they are not bleeding.  When she is ready to be bred her bleeding should have stopped and become a milky pinkish color, not red.  I suspect that you may have bred her too soon and if you still have time you may want to breed her one more time to be sure.

Frontline has no effect on the puppies that I am aware of so I think it would be safe to use.  You may want to ask your vet or read the precautions on the box to see if it says you should not use on pregnant females.  What I do know is that if she has fleas when the puppies are born it can be bad for them.  Fleas pray on the weak and I have known of puppies that have had fleas so bad that they died from it.  So in this case, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
