Yorkie throwing up

Question
My Yorkie has been throwing up every morning at around the same time.  It is clear with no food in it.  I have 5 other dogs and none of them are doing it so I don't think he gets into anything because the other dogs would do the same thing.  Could it be that he is hungry?  I want to try giving him a bit of food before he goes to bed to see if that will help.  Any advice would be helpful!

Answer
Tammy,

I would have liked more info so I could better answer the question like, age of dog, what are the other dogs you have?, is the vomit watery or is it more like mucus?, you stated it was clear, did you mean it was clear of food or clear in color?

Yorkies are known to have stomach problems and throwing up a yellow bile is not really uncommon.  It is a condition that there really is no cure for and sometimes adjusting their diet can help but I have never found it to help the ones I had that did that.  The vet also has given me pills to stop them from throwing up the yellow bile but it didn't do much either.  I have had as many as seven Yorkies at one time living in my home and there were two that had the throwing up yellow bile problem.  Interestingly enough, they were mother and daughter.  I have had others that threw up a clear mucusy (is that a word? lol) fluid but I found that they usually did that if they drank to much water too fast.

I don't think that feeding him before bed will help but I don't think that trying it would hurt either.  I don't know if you have them on a schedule but I just wanted you to know that I always found it best to let them eat whenever they wanted too.  I always fed them hard dog food because it is better for their digestion and because it helps keep their teeth cleaner longer.  Because they are small dogs and picky eaters Yorkies don't always eat like other dogs.  They will eat a few bites and then stop eating.  For that reason I would always leave the food down 24/7. Contrary to popular belief they usually don't over eat.  They will only eat when they are hungry and will stop when they are satisfied.

Anyway, I got off on a tangent there sorry.  Throwing up is never normal so I would keep an eye on him and if it continues you should probably take him to the vet just to make sure there is nothing wrong.  Good Luck and Happy New Year!
