Question
i just want to ask your advice my yorkie is a miniature weighing 1.5kg to 2.0kg this september will be her second season and i would like to try and breed her but only if it is 100% safe for her as i adore her and would hate for anything to happen to her in breeding or in childbirth how big would the sire have to be and how many days into her season do you have to try them together.

Answer
Lorraine,

Any female that is under 5 pounds can not be considered safe to breed.  The smaller they are the more chances of them having complications associated with birthing puppies.  Since your female is under 5 pounds and so very tiny you should not allow her to breed for any reason.  If you want to breed purchase a puppy whose parents were both over five pounds.  That way you can be sure to have a large enough female to use for breeding purposes.
