Question
My choclate Lab is allready 10 years old, I only had her for the last 3, she was overweight and we pretty much got her down to 100 #, the last year see has been suffering from what I think allergies, we tried pretty much every petfood there is but the only good way seem to be the vegetarion diet she is on rightnow, she finally got pretty much all her hair back but she is still itchy, I like to get some meat in her diet and waswondering if she could have some raw bones or something like that, with all the things the feed to the animals tough I wonder if that is a good Idea, at least the vegetables I try to get the organic kind.

Thank you Rosa

Answer
Hello Rosa,
I am so glad to hear that you have pitched the commercial pet food in favor a natural diet. Since dogs and cats are carnivores by nature, raw  meat and raw bones of any kind except pork is beneficial. This also includes raw turkey and chicken bones. Never give cooked chicken, turkey or some beef bones. The cooked ones are the ones that splinter and cause problems. Raw bones are great and provide some of the calcium that they need as well. I know some people give pork but pork has many parasites and I am very leery of giving any pork to animals or humans for the same reason.
There is a lot of information on the internet regarding a raw foods diet for animals. It is the best way to go in my opinion.
God bless and Good Luck!
