HI Labman, I am hoping...

Question
HI Labman,
I am hoping you can help me come up with a strategy for keeping Clover, my 9 month old lab from entering our upstairs nieghbours house.  We live in the basement suite of a house, with a completely fenced in yard, but are unable to allow her to stay outside on her own, as the home owners upstairs, have a dog door for their dog, and of course their dog food in their kitchen.  Clover has been invited into thier home, and thus knows where the food is.  Anytime I take her into the yard, she does everything in her power to get past me  to go into their house-to eat whatever she can find,  which has caused many embarrassing situations- i.e. me chasing her around their home while they are eating breakfast at 7am....Any advice on training her to stay out?  She geneally is a very fasy study- but this has to do with food- so I am not sure how to approach it?
Second question.  Clover is a very good, mostly well behaved dog.  The neighbours upstairs own a 2 year old knee high mutt- which is very cute- but the two do not get along.  We have been fortunate enough to socialize Clover-she plays at a dog park with puppy friends almost every day- I would say she is fairly submissive- as far as her place in the pack is- she always apporaches new dogs with her head lowered and rolls over on to her back for thier hello (and then gets up and runs along side trying to play with them- kissing them...)  The dog upstairs I would describe as almost cowering when you go to say hello to her- and then she reacts agressively, barking and growling...(and runs away like she is scared). We have lived here for 6 months and her reaction to us (both me and cLover) has not at all changed.  Any advice on how to make these two become friends?
Thanks,
Bridget

Answer
Years ago, there were a lot of good people on the net that could answer questions I couldn't.  Some idiots ran most of them off and I am afraid the last good man besides me died a few years ago.

I am afraid the only solution I know to the dog door is keeping him on leash.  As for the upstairs dog, sounds like a fear biter.  If it is over 3 years old, it just may not want to play puppy biting games.

You might try http://www.talkpets.com/forums/search.php?searchid=130417  I have ethical concerns about sending you to another site, but I very much doubt you will get much help here.  One of the other ''experts'' here is the troll that ran off many of the good people.
