My Jack Russell Terrier Sadie

Question
Hello:

I have a Jack Russell Terrier named Sadie.  Sadie is is long hair type with longer legs and her ears stand up straight and do not flop over.  She is my special friend.  I got her from a friend of a friend who rescued her at about 8 or 9 months of age from a person who kept her in a crate all the time, even when they were home.  She never was socialized properly.  I've had her now for about 4 years.  She is extremely smart and yes, I spoil her I suppose.  She sleeps with me, and she loves to ride in the car and we take her with us often, even out on the boat.  We live on a small island.  She is very happy and loves to chase squirlls and run.  She also loves her stuffed animals and we play every day together with them.  She is very loved.  I've never been able to completely house breat her.  She never pees in the house when we are awake.  She often pees at night, even when I get up many times to let her out.  I hate to leave her alone and fortunatly I work from home and have another office close to home and I usually bring her with me.  Or my boyfriend takes her with him when he is able doing little jobs on the weekends for his grandmother who owns a marina.  She loves to go with him and runs and plays, but never runs away and ALWAYS COMES WHEN WE CALL HER.  Even in my yard which is not fenced in she knows her bounderies and I can let her out and she stays in the yard.  At night when she gets sleepy she curls up in the bed and burries herself next to me under the covers.  She plays hard and when shes sleepy she loves to sleep.  If I do have to leave her she always has free run of the house, but I know she hates to be left alone.  98% of the time she is not destructive but recently she did shread the new carpet in my office.  She is sometimes nervous and shakes, I'm not sure if it's because shes cold or what.  I think she is a bid high strung and nervous at times.  She is highly sensitive and extremely smart.  Maybe some people would say I'm crazy but I know she understands many things I say.  For instance, she loves stuffed animals and I have these stuffed ducks, etc., I'll say "where's your duck"  and she will go find it and bring it to me.  I ask "Do you want to go outside" and she perks up and hops around anxious to go outside.  It's almost if we have a physic connection.  Ok - now with the major problem - she really hates other dogs.
My boss and his wife bought a vacation home in Florida and I babysat their Cocker Spaniel the whole time.  Sadie became very upset, nervous and hid under the bed and seemed terribly depressed the whole time.  She leared to tolerate JoJo but never really bonded with him.
Recently my brother moved home from California and he lives in a little bungalow right down the stree from me.  He wanted a puppy and last Saturday we bought him a little Westie.  The puppy is absolutely adorable and very playful.  For the first three days Sadie just ignored the puppy - but the puppy, being a puppy, was drawn to her, and tried to play with Sadie.  Sadie just growled at her.  For the last 3 days Sadie would play with her breifly and I thought that was a good sign.  My brother is here alot but the puppy never spends the night.  On days my brother has meeting or obligations I babysit the puppy because we don't want to leave her alone.  I do correct the puppy when Sadie is being difficult and try to keep them apart. The puppy is so cute and innocent though and hops around and her insistence becomes irresistable even to Sadie and she will play for awhile - but today she attacked the puppy and my brother reacted by scooping up the puppy and Sadie has been hiding under the bed.  She is acting very nervous and depressed.  Somehow trying to run from the puppy she her her front leg.  I think her leg is ok, it's not broken but she might of bruised it.  If she isn't better by tomorrow I will take her to have it checked out.  Sorry for this long story - but I really don't know what to do.  Do you think Sadie will get used to the puppy after some time?  What can I do?  I love her so much and I don't want her to feel depressed?  She is curled up in the bed with me right now and very happy the puppy has left for the night.  Her personality is totally different when the puppy is around.  I swear I continue to pay as much attention to Sadie and correct the puppy when I can tell Sadie is in no mood.  Is there anything I'm doing wrong in this situation?  Do you have any suggestions?  Help!
I'm at a loss here.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Hall

Hello, This is very normal for a Jack or parson russell terrier, My own jack russell terrier is very ery dog agressive thou manages to live with two other dogs may labrador retreiver and boston terrier....he gets very jelus and just after I brough my boston puppy home for the first little while she needed alot of attention and well he felt left out and very depressed looking all the time and starting to try spend more time with my parents who I'm still living with but I wouldnt let him because I wanted him to stay my dog and now he is fine with the other puppy and finaly has come back to being happy and playful and joyful and not mopy and depressed. Jack russell terriers are genrally best kept alone they are 5 of 5 on the dog agressive chart like pitbulls or staffardshire bull terriers(dog agressive as you know doesnt mean people agressive), Since Sadie is an older dog she will likely never quite get used to living with or enjoying playing with other dogs, JRT's are jeslus dogs and would I think be happier living as the only dog in the house. Don't expect too much friom the pair and you should be fine, Don't expect her to love him to death...it wont likely happen at the very lest she might tolerat him later on. Never leave the two alone together....don't give rawhides or beef knuckles around with both dogs there JRT's are braave little buggers and well a little over a month ago my baby girl 'Hannah' my boston terrier weighing 11 pounds and only 6 months old got her eye bitten by my 2 year old jack russell terrier 'Luke' and she was ever so lucky to still be able to see as the bite marks on her eye ball were in the whites above and below the cornea....the reason this happened is all three dogs were in the bed with a chip style rawhide I was sitting at the end of the bed doing a cross stich patteren and luke being the bugger he is stole her rawhide after he nearly swollowed his whole and I said no pulled it from him and gave it back to hannah twice but the last time he bit her....it was a nightmare she backed up not a sound came out of her  I turned and looked at her she was paniced or in shock frightened to say the lest as her left eye filled with blood.....I would never wish this on anyone with multiple dogs or terriers...just be careful about this, also if the puppy wants to older dogs toys tell him No and tkae them away and give him his own toys fights are sparked over toys also...I have a number or toys I cant keep down anymore because the dogs growl over them. I hope this helps if you need anything else please dont hesitate to ask.
