Hi Tara
I believe this is a personal choice you have to make on your own. There is no way to tell in advance how these animals will get along. Some do well, some don't. Sorry, wish I could help more, but it's a crap shoot.
Good luck!

If you're getting a puppy, your chances of them getting along might be better. The puppy will learn quickly who's boss - but then again, he or she could have a very dominant personality and try to run the show making everyone crazy! It's the same with females.
If you are getting an adult dog, there is NO way to know until you experience life with all of them. It also depends on the personality of your three dogs whether or not they will welcome a new comer.
Geez, I really wish I could help more, but I'm telling you there are no absolutes when it comes to animals.....
If I were you I'd take my chance with a male, even if only to even out the numbers.... 2 males, 2 females.
Tough decision, good luck!

Answer
Hi Tara,
I'm glad it's a puppy you'll be getting. You sure have a busy household! - where are you getting your puppy? A pet store or a private breeder or a friend?  You shouldn't take her/him before 8 weeks old.
A passive puppy will lie on his/her back in your hands without squiggling for a minute and will not look at you directly in the eye - a passive puppy will lie down on his or her back during rough play with the other puppies (as if to say, OK, you win).
The littler the dog, the more yippy they are! That's a good sign they all get along with the yorkie too.
Good Luck Tara!
