feeding my jrt

Question
Hi, I've just rescued a jrt from a dog rescue centre and was wondering how much to feed him.   Hese only been with me for 3 days so I'm just curious as to how much to feed him.  At the centre they said they only fed him once a day at 3pm - I've started to feed twice daily but am not sure of the proportions to give him (hese about 18 months old) - Would appreciate youre help.  I don't know much about jrt, I'm trying to find out as much as I can of the internet.  I love him to bits already (never thought I could love another one after I lost my golden retriever 6 years ago).
Anyway, if you can help I would appreciate it.  Thanks ever so much.

Answer
Hello Nancy
You picked a WONDERFUL breed to adopt, he's a lucky fellow!
I have no doubt you will love him as much as you did your Golden. Jacks are fun and have lots of personality!
A lot of how much you feed your dog depends on his activity level. Typically I feed my dogs two times a day, once in the morning (when I eat my breakfast) and once in the evening (when I eat my dinner) - Usually around 7 AM and then again at 5 PM -
If your dog is active and burns off some energy, (which he should be doing at 18 months of age!) I would feed two cups at each feeding time.  You can cut that down to one cup if he is inactive. A couple of cheese treats during the day is great and always have fresh water available.
There is a wonderful book you should read if you want to learn more about Jack Russells called
The Ultimate Jack Russell Terrier book by Mary Strom
You will find lots of useful and helpful information that will give you a great idea of the dog's history and breed characteristics.
Very best of luck to you and your new boy!!!!
