thinking of adopting a jack russell puppy

Question
I recently came across an adorable jack russell puppy at the local animal shelter. I'm not sure she's a pure bred. Her tail hasn't been clipped. The remainder of characteristics seem to fit though. She's 5 mos. old and of course.......adorable. I work from home and most of the time I can spend time with her however, I do travel periodically but not usually for more than a night or two away and sometimes for just a long day. I have several close friends who are neighbors who also have dogs who would be willing to take her to their house and/or come to mine to look after her whenever I need to be gone. So my schedule is unpredictable.
I've read alot about training which I think we will have no problem with. From what I've read, a crate might be a good thing..? I do have a fenced in yard with an 8 ft fence although the yard is mostly garden (digging up flowers might be a challenging problem)I live in the city and we can take lots of walks and there are dog parks everywhere.
I guess I'm just weighing it all out to ensure it's the right decision for both of us. She's an adorable dog who already is quite obedient and sits upon command, enjoys being held and carried around, loves to play and tug on toys and rags, will sit still and focus on chewbones and will sit in your lap for short periods of time.
I have no other pets at this time. My Siamese cat Buddy died last June at almost 18yrs old. This is the first time I've been 'petless' in 20 yrs. I grew up with a dog I had for 15 yrs, a husky, but haven't had a dog in a long time. Lots of love to give here and lots of support.
I filled out an application and anticipate being approved with no problem.
Any thoughts?

Thanks......

Answer
Tina,
I think you have taken everything into careful consideration, covered all the bases, thought things through and I think you will be a WONDERFUL Jack owner. The main concerns always are 1.) not to leave a new puppy all alone; 2.) make sure you get proper training for both the puppy and yourself in a puppy kindergarten class at a local dog training school (You'll be amazed at how Jacks are ALWAYS the smartest!)and they can try to become the boss if you let them, start early and get a good foundation in. 3.) Patience and love in crate and house training.
You will most definitely have to give up some of your garden area but you can definitely train her to stay out of your favorites!
They are an extremely loving and loyal breed who will be your very best friend. I think you have already fallen in love by the sounds of it!! Very best of luck, you're going to be great!  Please feel free to write anytime, I love hearing about jack russells, they're the best.
