great dane male or female?

I have a 5 year old male harlequin dane and would like to get another dane, a puppy.  Would it be OK if the puppy is female (I would have her spayed) or should I get another male?

Answer
A female and male duo is less likely to fight than two of the same sex.

However, a female shouldn't be spayed until after her first season so you will have to keep them apart for three weeks, during which time the male will howl day and night.

You need to be sure you have the space and accommodation to cope with this.
