Dog behaviour

My 9-1/2 year old high energy dog - Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix - has suddenly started to take rests in the middle of her walks.  Thought it was heat-related, because she pants a lot during walks and I always carry water for her, but she does it even on cooler days, although not every time.

I would appreciate your opinion.

Hmm.... this is tricy one because there might be a number of reasons. Your dog is very old and might have heart or respiratory problems. I suggest you see a vet because i cant say a solution for this without examining your dog. Sorry i couldnt do much. But if you have anymore questions,feel free to ask.
