Developing agression

Question
I have a 8 month old GSD male.  He has just completed obedience training...sit, stay, heel, down, come......and did well.  I would like to start developing his agression.  The person who did obdeience indicated that agression is somewhat genetic nad if he doesn't show this then its likely that he wont be very agressive.  Is that really so?  Can I start doing anything that will bring out his natural traits or encourage aggression.

Answer
Hi,  First off a dog should not show any natural aggressive tendencies until at least a year of age.  Some, depending on linege, don't show it until a year and a half of age.  They are too young, and basically not mentally mature enough to understand what they are doing.  Yes, your trainer was partly right, if they don't have natural ability to protect, then they never will.  Don't assume just because he is a GSD he will be aggressive.  A lot of them aren't.  There is nothing you can do to being it out.  If you try to make him aggressive, you will just make a mean dog who will be unpredictable and a big liability in the end.  Keep working on his obedience and let nature take its course.  If he has it, it will come.
