Question
Sheri,
I do not have a pom but it is a toy breed (chihuahua). She has problems with her knees and has been to a vet. My question is do you know if other treatments are available to treat this and how hard is surgery for the tiny ones (2 pounds)?
She is only 14 weeks old now and very grouchy about her legs but a lover otherwise. I am scared about surgery. We lost a small Chi 2pounds at 3 years old from severe seizures.
Well onto the next question.  Have a friend looking for a small dog likes my long hair chi and works 8 hours a day. Told her chi's like to be with you. Are poms the same or will they be ok for the time she needs to work?

Answer
Melinda,

Hello!  As far as I know, there isn't much to be done about your dog's disorder. As far as surgery goes, it's probably very dangerous to put a dog as small as yours under an anesthesia.  Your vet should inform you of that.  I would think that they may have some kind of medication to help ease any pain?  From what I understand, most dogs can live comfortably with this disorder.  That's about all I know about it...

As far as your friend getting a dog.  Poms require lots of attention.  I take my Pom to my parent's house on my way to work every other day so she won't be home by herself all day long.  Poms are probably better animals for older people who don't work all the time.  They are like little babies, and are like that even when they are full grown!

Hope I've helped you and should you need anything else, please let me know!

Sheri
